Enable Windows 8 on-screen keyboard function keys

Windows 8 users may have problems using F12 to hide/display the Grid menu bars. To fix this you need to add a ‘Standard Keyboard Layout’ to the Windows on screen keyboard:

– Swipe in from the left to bring up the charms bar
– Select the ‘Settings’ cog
– At the bottom click ‘Change PC Settings’
– In PC Settings, select General on the left
– Scroll down to ‘Touch Keyboard’ and turn on the option ‘Make the standard keyboard layout available’

When you next bring up the on screen keyboard the icon in the lower left will bring up an option for the full keyboard which includes function keys.
