Visual scenes can be created in two main ways: either with a photograph with hotspot cells which will tell you about that part of the photo, or using a clean image on which you can place symbols.
Step 1 – Set your photograph or picture as the grid background
- Browse to Edit in the menu bar at the top of The Grid 2 and select Editing mode
- Select Edit grid settings (on the left hand side of window under Grid Options).
- Select Picture from the drop down menu for Grid background.
- Select Browse for picture.
- Navigate to where your photograph is stored. If using our visual scene templates, browse to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sensory Software\Common\Pictures\Dynamic Scene Displays
- Select Open, and then Ok.
Step 2 – Hide empty cells
This is to ensure that blank cells do not appear on top of the visual scene, and cannot be selected.
- Go to Edit – User Settings – Appearance settings
- Tick Hide blank cells
- Select Ok
Step 3 – Add in extra rows and columns
- Browse to Edit in the menu bar at the top of The Grid 2 and select Editing mode
- Select Add/delete a row (or Add/delete a column)
- Move mouse over grid, when in the middle of a cell it will be blue click to add row/column. When in between the cells it will be red click to delete row/column.
- Select Stop adding/deleting rows when finished adding rows and columns.
Step 4 – Create transparent cell style
- Browse to Edit in the menu bar at the top of The Grid 2 and select Editing mode
- Select Change style on the left hand side under Cell Options
- Select New Preset Style
- Type transparent cell, then click on Ok
- Select the Background drop down menu, and select Transparent, then Ok.
Step 5 – Create cells that speak
These will be the hotspots or symbols on your picture.
- Browse to Edit in the menu bar at the top of The Grid 2 and select Editing mode
- Select the cell you wish to speak.
- Move mouse over the little white box on the outside of the cell and drag the cell to the size you need.
- Double click on the cell, and type into Vocab cell your caption for the cell
- Select the black arrow linking Cell Text and Description.
- Delete the writing in Cell Text
- Select Change Picture to choose a different symbol or select No Picture
- Select the drop down next to Style and choose transparent cell.
Repeat step 5 as many times as you require, and you will now have your visual scene.
