Message banking in Grid 3

Message banking allows you to record sounds or speech and assign them to different phrases in Grid 3. When the phrase is entered into a chat writing area, Grid 3 will automatically recognise it and use your recorded speech instead of the usual synthesised speech. You can record and categorise your phrases using Grid 3, by going into the menu bar (three lines, top left corner) – Settings – Speech – Message banking.

You can add a new recorded phrase by pressing Add in the bottom right corner. You will be prompted to either record a new sound or phrase, or browse for an existing sound file.

Once you have your sound file, Grid 3 will ask you to provide the Full text, as well as a label for the cell (see below). The full text is what needs to be typed into the chat writing area to play the recorded sound. You can use the Categories on the right hand side to organise your recordings to make them easier to find.

You can add your message banking phrases into your grid set using the Message Banking commands under the Recordings category. You can also record new messages without the need to go into Settings using the Record message command.

As well as recording whole messages, you can also record individual words. Grid 3 will then use those words when speaking, providing another way to correct pronunciation or bring more personality into your AAC voice.
