How to reduce the size of large grid sets in Grid 3

Large grid sets can cause problems with remote editing, or be slow to load or open. This note shows how you can identify problem pages in a grid set. If they are no longer required you can use Grid 3 to delete them. If they are still required you may be able to ‘refactor’ the grid set into a number of smaller grid sets and you can then use the ‘change grid set’ command to jump between the grid sets.
If you don’t have 7-Zip on your computer it can be downloaded from http://www.7-zip.org/

1. Locate the grid set file under “C:\Users\Public\Documents\Smartbox\Grid 3\Users\xxx\Grid Sets” (when xxx is the user name)

2. Right click the .gridset file and select 7-zip > Open Archive

3. In the 7-zip view of the archive double click the ‘Grids’ folder icon to open it and then click the header to the ‘Size’ to sort the pages by size. You can now see the largest pages and decide if they should be deleted or moved to another grid set.

4. Use Grid 3 to make your changes. Do not try to edit the pages in 7-Zip or you may end up with corrupted grids.
