Using Styles in Grid 3

Updating a Style

The standard resources in Grid 3 (e.g Super Core) use cell styles to help identify the word class of each cell. To view these styles, go to Edit > Style and select the drop-down list. We follow the Fitzgerald Key to colour code nouns, verbs and adjectives etc – for example verbs are green.

However, if you don’t follow this colour code and want to change how a certain word class appears, you can do this quickly in Edit mode:

  • Select a cell from the style
  • Make the desired edits (e.g change the colour or font size)
  • Select Update Style from the menu
  • This will update the formatting for all the cells in that style universally

Creating a New Style

You can also create your own styles in Grid 3 using the New Style option under the Style tab.

For example, if you wanted to distinguish between types of verbs, you could make a new style just for small verbs:

  • Update the style of a cell in the group
  • Select New Style from the menu
  • Name the New Style and press OK
  • Now select the remaining cells (in this case: be, can, do and have)
  • Apply your new style
