Using Grid 2 with Hotmail

Microsoft have recently extended Hotmail so that you can use The Grid 2 to access your Hotmail account. However, we would not recommend this currently, as Hotmail only allows you to access your emails every 15 minutes, which leads to delays and problems when sending and receiving emails.

Configure the email settings in The Grid 2

You can now enter the settings into The Grid 2. To access the email settings:

Select Edit > User Settings from the menu.

Select the Workspaces > Email category.

Enter the settings below:

hotmail-300x188

Receiving email:

Host:pop3.live.com

Username: [username]@hotmail.com (or [username]@hotmail.co.uk)

Password: [the password you selected]

Requires SSL authentication: YES (ticked)

Port: 995

Sending email:

Host: smtp.live.com

Username: [username]@hotmail.com (or [username]@hotmail.co.uk)

Password: [the password you selected]

Requires SSL authentication: NO (unticked)

Port:25

Other details:

Reply address: [username]@hotmail.com ( [username]@hotmail.co.uk)

You must include a reply address.

Delete messages from email server when read: YES (ticked)

That’s it! You can test the settings by clicking Test Email Settings, and then click Ok to return to your grids and start sending emails.

Note

Although these settings should work for Hotmail, our grids are generally designed to work with Googlemail since this provides a more ‘open’ interface.
