Using Manic Time Tracker to track Grid 3 activity

This article shows how the Manic Time Tracker utility can be used to log usage of Grid 3.

Manic Time Tracker is a utility that can be used to record and analyse screen activity on a Windows computer. There are various versions and this article describes usage of the free version. Other versions may be used for example for remote logging via a server which may be useful where a therapist needs to check progress of a number of students. Before installing you should consider the privacy implications of installing the software that logs screen activity, especially if it is a shared computer. Please note Smartbox is not affiliated to Manic Time Tracker and cannot offer detailed support for the product.

The picture below shows a session while Grid 3 was running and Manic Time Tracker in ‘Day View’.

  1. The timelines show a summary of computer usage, application and documents(if relevant). Under Computer Usage the green bar shows the computer being used, the red the computer was turned on (with Grid 3 running), but no one was using it.
  2. The applications timeline shows which application is being used. In this example Grid 3 is coloured blue, Manic Time tracker is red and Windows explorer orange.
  3. The Details View shows the various programs being used.
  4. Note that in the case of Grid 3, Details View also shows the name of the grid set (Symbol Talker B) and the page within the grid set.
  5. The computer Usage timeline turns red at about 1225 when the computer was inactive while the user stopped for lunch. The user returned at about 01:30 and started using Grid 3
  6. The Summary box shows an activity summary by application. Note that this gives a total by application EXCLUDING any inactive time. i.e. it only shows the time while Grid 3 was being used

Manic Time Tracker includes lots of other options and analysis tools. See the full documentation for details.
