Technical Director

We are looking for a Technical Director to join the Smartbox team.

This is a phenomenal opportunity to join a team that exists to help people. Smartboxers are driven and detail-oriented – what we do matters, and we take that seriously while having a lot of fun along the way!

The Technical Director is responsible for the Research and Development of the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) portfolio at Smartbox, from the inception of new ideas through to production and for the lifetime of the products in service.

You will be part of the management board, working alongside the Managing Director, Finance Director and Customer Experience Director. Together you will create and be responsible for the Smartbox business plans and setting the direction of the company.

You will be responsible for the three R&D teams at Smartbox. Our Hardware Team is responsible for the design and development of our communication aids, which includes both adapted tablet computers and made-for-purpose devices, as well as a range of accessories. Our Software Team develops and maintains our best-in-class AAC software, Grid 3 and Grid for iPad; and our Content Team creates ways for our customers to communicate, work and play using Grid. Our experienced and knowledgeable heads of these teams will report to you.

Smartbox has ambitious goals for new products and to achieve these we will need you to develop and grow your teams, whilst improving and streamlining the product management systems.
