Distributor of Smartbox products in the US, Accessibility Services, recently worked with the Dream Foundation in California, to fulfill the wish of Alfred Combee and his wife Anna.

Alfred and Anna have been living with the effects of Parkinson’s disease for over four years but in the last year Alfred’s voice has faded. Anna recounts how hard it was when Alfred lost his voice following 25 years of marriage, explaining how she loved his voice.

“He coulbilded not say anything anymore,” Anna shared. “It was getting very lonely”.

Despite coping with his physical strength declining, losing the ability to communicate was a major blow. It was at this point that Accessibility Services stepped in with the help of the Dream Foundation, to deliver Alfred with an environment control system powered by The Grid 2. Using the text communication grid sets available in the software Alfred quickly set about talking with Anna.

“It feels so good when he sits down there (at the system),” she said. “Sometimes he writes and writes and then plays it for me… this has helped so much”.

Using his new device Alfred was quick to jump in and shared: “My wife is always right. She’s a wonderful caregiver also. I wouldn’t try it [the device] without her.”
