Introducing Smartbox Academy
Exploring AAC and becoming an expert in Grid software is now even easier with Smartbox Academy, our new online learning platform.
We have combined years of knowledge from AAC specialists across Smartbox to create a range of courses for all levels, from beginner to expert.
We’re welcoming professionals, students and others working to support AAC users to make an account and explore our selection of free and low-cost courses.

Work at your own pace
Exercises and videos in the platform are useful. This is a very valuable tool for clinicians. – SLP
Enrol in your chosen course(s) to kickstart your learning. Independent e-learning means you can complete modules at your own pace and fit your learning in around work and other commitments.
We have a range of on-demand webinar-style short courses, perfect to complete when you have an hour to spare. These sit alongside more in-depth courses specific to Grid 3 (Windows) and Grid for iPad. Courses are easy to complete on the go – load up Smartbox Academy on a laptop, smartphone or tablet.

FAQs
Can anyone create an account?
Yes. Creating an account is free and gives you access to all our free courses with the option to purchase further learning content.
Do I need prior knowledge of AAC to enrol?
No. The courses in Smartbox Academy range from beginner to expert. You can find the course level in the course description.
Do I need Grid to complete these courses?
Some of the courses have content specifically on Grid or Grid for iPad. For these courses, we recommend you have access to the relevant software. You can download a free trial of Grid and Grid for iPad here.
Are the courses accredited?
Our online courses can count towards your Professional Development Hours (PDHs) which can be logged with your relevant awarding body such as ASHA if you are in the United States. More information can be found on the ASHA Website. If you are outside of the United States, then Smartbox Academy courses can count towards Continued Professional Development (CPD) and your certificate of completion will provide evidence.
Are courses available in other languages?
Courses are currently available in English, though we are looking at offering the courses in more languages in the future. Please let us know if you would be interested in seeing courses available in a different language.
Has any of the content been made for AAC users to complete independently?
The content has been created primarily for individuals who support AAC users, however, some AAC users may choose to complete the courses themselves depending on their access method. It is important to note that at this stage, provisions have not been made to support alternative access methods.
