Each month of 2023 brings a different Grid training opportunity. Our workshops range from training in the basics of Grid 3 AAC software, strategies to support an AAC user and how to use eye gaze, switch, pointer and touch.

Depending on which training you want to take, you will need free trial of either Grid 3 (Windows) or Grid for iPad. You can download copies of these here:

The training will be delivered online in small groups and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Course dates are outlined below and tickets cost £25 / $35. At the end of the workshop, you will receive a certificate of attendance.

Getting started with Grid workshops

This course is perfect for anyone who wants to start using Grid 3 (Windows), our flagship AAC software for people with disabilities.

In this three-hour online workshop, you will learn how to get set up with Grid and the basics of using symbol and text AAC.

This training will cover: 

  • Grid User stories 
  • Beginning with Grid: Settings, Users and Grid Explorer
  • Symbol & Text AAC
  • Editing Basics
  • Accessible apps
  • Next steps and ongoing support

This workshops is designed for complete beginners, so no prior knowledge is needed.


Eye Gaze, Switch, Pointer and Touch in Grid workshops

Take this course if you want to use and optimise Eye Gaze, Switch, Pointer and Touch in Grid 3 (Windows).

In this three-hour online workshop, we will explore how to set up and get started with the four main methods of access for people using AAC.

This training will cover: 

  • Introduction
  • Making the most of pointer access
  • Setting up switch access
  • Using eye gaze access
  • Fine tuning touch access
  • Starting with simple environment control

This workshop is designed for people with a basic knowledge of Grid.


 

SIMPLE AAC workshops

This course is ideal for people who want to learn a variety of strategies to help an AAC learner to communicate using Grid 3 (Windows) or Grid for iPad at home or in an education setting.

Each letter of Simple AAC represents a different strategy. In this three hour workshop, you’ll explore each strategy and spend time understanding what it’s like to use alternative communication.

This training will cover: 

  • Introduction
  • Putting yourself in an AAC user’s shoes
  • Show, Interesting, Months
  • Pause, Language, Explore
  • Add words, Always Available, Comment
  • Next steps

This workshop is designed for complete beginners, so no prior knowledge is needed.
