We’re is supporting the EY Foundation

Smartbox has been delighted to support the EY foundation this week by offering over 20 Year 12 students an opportunity to get a glimpse into our world and find out more about who we are and what we do.

We talk to Amanda, Head of Marketing at Smartbox, to find out more about the project.


What is the EY Foundation? 

The EY Foundation is all about preparing young people for the world of work, helping them find out about great companies (like ours!) and exploring different careers that might be available.

The UK charity aims to reduce the barriers to work for people from disadvantaged backgrounds, supporting them to transition into higher education or employment.

 

What does the project involve for Smartbox? 

The project is split over three days.

On day one we give the students an introduction to Smartbox, covering who we are, what we do, who we help, the products we create, the locations we support around the world. We also share some of the challenges in the AAC industry, as well as our aspirations for the future. This is followed by an overview of the Marketing team and the activity we do to engage with our audiences and generate sales.

SLT Daisy Clay then gives the students a sneak peek at a new product coming later this year, explaining what it is, why we have developed it, how it can be used and by whom. We then challenge the students to create a logo and tagline and plan some social media posts for a range of channels to launch the product.

On day two we provide mentoring sessions to the students, and on day three groups of students will present their work back to us. After the presentations, a winner will be selected and there will be a graduation ceremony.

 

Why is Smartbox taking part in this project? 

Smartbox is supporting the EY Foundation through our relationship with CareTech and the CareTech Foundation.

As well as demonstrating our commitment to supporting young people by giving them a taste of business and job opportunities, we wanted to introduce them to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and the powerful tool it provides disabled adults and children.

This project enables us to talk about breaking down barriers around disability and communication, with a new young audience. It gives them a creative challenge to use their imagination and younger insight into social media. They also get an insight into marketing and the important part it plays in helping a business engage with people.
