New African American Voices in Grid
A selection of new African American voices are here! We are delighted to share that Grid now includes 4 new African American voices from Acapela. Darius (Male | Adult) Listen to a sample of three of the voices below: Darius Malik Tamira Available in the latest Grid update (version 89 | November 2023). “With new, culturally and regionally specific voices we can begin to celebrate our ethnicity, regionalisms, and distinctiveness. AAC speakers and their listeners can engage as people with vocal qualities and traits that authentically paint a picture of who they are because of how they sound, not solely based on the words used in conversation. A voice that sounds more like how we describe ourselves, a voice that represents our identity, takes us one step closer to the human connections motivating so much of our communication.” To try the new voices, update to the latest version of Grid and go to Settings – Speech – Voices. Make sure your language is set to English (United States) and choose from the list of voices. Try these new voices in Grid 3 for Windows or Grid for iPad with our free software trial.
