We want to better understand the factors that might cause people to stop using their AAC device.
To explore this we have created a survey and are looking for people to take part in some interviews with us. We’re particularly keen to hear from:
- People with complex communication needs
- Family and friends supporting people with complex communication needs
- Professionals who have worked with people who use AAC, including those who have started on their AAC journey but for some reason have not continue
If this sounds like you we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to share this research survey with anyone who might be interested in taking part.
The deadline for this survey is 29 January 2024.
How will this research be used?
We hope to learn how we can better support people on their AAC journey and whether there’s anything we can do as an industry to reduce the likelihood of device abandonment. The findings may also be used to improve existing processes and the next generation of AAC devices from Smartbox.
This research project is a collaboration between Smartbox and SpeakUnique, with help from our AAC advisory group. It is funded by Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, who invest in businesses that are developing life-changing innovations. Innovate UK provides targeted sectors with expertise, facilities and funding to test, demonstrate and evolve their ideas, driving UK productivity and economic growth.
