Introducing programmable Smart Buttons

The latest Grid Pad includes new eye gaze accessible Smart Buttons, helping you to navigate your device even more quickly.

Set your Smart Buttons to one of the quick selection settings, or choose a custom function by programming a Grid Command.

Customise the function and colour of your Smart Buttons in Menu – Settings – Devices – Smart Buttons.

 

Ways to use Smart Buttons

Try the quick selection options

In your Settings drop down you will find some of the most useful and common actions: Rest eye gaze, Positioning Guide, Grid Explorer, Back and Calibrate.

Add a quick word or sound

Use the Speak now Command to add a message to be spoken in your Grid voice. Simply type your message into the ‘Speak some text’ box. You could also use the Play Sound Command to record an audio clip or add a sound effect.

Quickly navigate your device

Smart Buttons offer a really quick way to jump between functions in Grid. Try the Change grid set Command to go from your vocabulary to emails or SMS for example. You could also use the Start Program Command to open any Windows app. Use Back from the quick selection options, to quickly jump back to your original grid set.

Toggle a setting

Smart Buttons can be used to toggle settings on and off. For example the Private mode Command allows you to to stop your messages appearing in Chat History. You could also add a Command to toggle your second screen on and off or dim your screen brightness.

Change User

The Change User Command adds even more functionality to your Smart Buttons. Programme them differently between Grid Users, and switch between them. You could have one user setup with speaking functions, another with presentation functions.

Set up an alert

This could be a Speak Now Command,  Environment Control Alarm Command or an Instant SMS Command that you can use to raise an alarm or get help.

What are Smart Buttons?
Smart Buttons are a new feature available on our latest communication aid, the Grid Pad 13. They are user accessible, allowing you to quickly activate a Command or navigate your device with just one button. Smart Buttons are customisable, allowing you to use them however you choose.

How can I access these buttons?
Smart Buttons are eye gaze and touch accessible.

How can I update the function of my Smart Buttons?
Smart Buttons can be fully customised in your Grid Settings menu.

Can I change the function of the Volume Buttons?
The volume buttons cannot be changed. When Grid 3 is closed, or eye gaze is inactive, the volume buttons work only by touch.
